found the same thing to be true. Then I enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force to become an Eagle Pilot
but was stopped at the US border with the threat of going to jail if I crossed. At the time it looked like my
dream of becoming a fighter ace was being shot down.
My book then takes me to Hawaii where I spent the war years in the U.S.Naval Reserve. I was working for
the Navy when I got drafted so I went out to Schofield Barracks to be inducted into the Army, but the Navy
intervened and put me in the US Navy Reserve, saying they could not afford to loose me. I was an aircraft
carburetor specialist and there were no replacements there to take my place.
Since I was in contact with planes, my desire for flying was subdued. I spent the war years (WWII) at
Kaneohe Naval Air Station on the windward side of Oahu, Hawaii.
During the war I had come home on emergency leave to see my Mother through an operation and while I
was home I met a cute little redhead that excited me, so when I left Hawaii I visited my mom in Yuba City,
California, and then I followed my little redhead to San Antonio and got married shortly after.
After getting married in San Antonio we moved back to California. I held several sales jobs during the next
few years but was not happy with any of them. I had wanted to become a California Highway Patrolman but
the waiting list was too long and Greyhound was hiring at the time and the buses fascinated me so I went into
San Francisco and applied for a job. After 28 years I knew the decision to become a Greyhound driver was
the best I ever made.
I met a lot of interesting people during my career with Greyhound. I always tried to give them a good smooth
ride and make their trip an enjoyable one. I want to thank God, again, for His assistance in helping me keep
those people safe while on my bus. There were times when I should not have been driving as I didn't have
the proper rest that I should have had, but I knew God was with me every minute. His awesome power has
helped me overcome obstacles all through my life. There were times when an immediate decision had to be
made and somehow, I always made the right one.
I would never have dreamed of having a job where I went to work with a smile on my face and returned home
with that same smile, but it did happen. I truly loved my job.
The rest of my book, I take you with me on many chartered trips to see the National Parks in the Western
States. God has given us so much beauty in our Nation to be enjoyed and we should all strive to enjoy it. We
will also drive the Alaska Highway from Dawson Creek to Fairbanks. After touring Alaska I put our bus on a
ship at Haines to return down the Inland Passage.. There are lots of pictures to enjoy.

The Purpose of this Site is to Introduce my Book
"MEMOIRS OF A GREYHOUND BUS DRIVER"
My story begins with my early childhood of being brought up on a farm
down in the middle of Texas. I was at a very early age when I learned
the only way to enjoy a cotton field, was, from a great distance. I made
up my mind then and there, I was not going to be a farm boy any
longer than necessary.
I was probably at the age of six or seven when I found myself
becoming very fascinated by airplanes flying over our house. At the
time, commercial aviation was just getting started, so there wasn't too
many planes flying. I was so intrigued by the planes that I knew some
day I was going to own and fly my own plane.
After graduating from High school I tried enlisting in the Army Air Corp
but at the time two years of college was required. I tried the Navy and
